Gandhiji visited different places to collect funds for India’s freedom struggle. Once he visited Odisha. There he met an old woman. She could not stand straight. Her hair was grey and her sari was torn. She went near Gandhiji and touched his feet. Then she gave him a coin. Jamanlal Bajaj’s duty was to keep the funds. He asked Gandhiji for the coin, but Gandhiji refused. Jamanlal was surprised and said, “I have collected thousands of rupees.”

Thoughts of love, peace and equality filled Gandhiji’s works. Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore also had similar ideas. Swami Vivekananda wanted unity among all religions. He spoke about it in 1893 at Chicago. Rabindranath Tagore started the Raksha Bandhan in 1905. It was a festival of brotherhood and communal harmony.
