UNSEEN COMPREHENSION (Questions 31–40)

Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:

A small village lay beside a wide river. Every year during the rainy season, the river overflowed and flooded the fields. The villagers accepted this as a part of life, but a young girl named Meera believed something could be done. She gathered a group of friends and, with the guidance of their science teacher, studied how trees help prevent soil erosion and reduce the impact of floods.

The children started planting saplings along the riverbank. At first, many villagers laughed at their efforts, saying that a few children could not change nature. However, the children continued their work with patience and determination. They also organised awareness campaigns, encouraging people not to cut trees unnecessarily.

After several years, the riverbank became stronger because the roots of the trees held the soil together. During the next heavy monsoon, the damage caused by flooding was much less than before. The villagers realised that small, consistent efforts could bring remarkable results. Meera’s initiative inspired neighbouring villages to begin similar environmental projects.
